The Bitch Posse - Martha O'Connor
This book follows three girls Amy, Rennie, and Cherry; three girls who were “outcasts, rebels and dreamers.” (O’Connor) This book does skip around a lot but isn’t too hard to follow. Each chapter is told from a different point of view. Each girl is very different in that they all share different experiences. While reading, you may be able to relate to one girl more than the other. Are you the one who strives for excellence, but wants a bit of rebellion in your life? Or are you the girl who struggles with an extremely unstable family, but wants that stability back? Or could you be the girl on the verge of adulthood, who thinks that she’s ready? This story describes these girls as seniors in high school, and as they grow up into their mid thirties. These three girls have secrets; and these secrets are what ruin their lives. Will it tear them apart or bring them closer together? The Bitch Posse is a very dark and bitter story. This book was not only a mature read, but quite distressing at times. “The Bitch Posse is an anthem for friendships.” (O’Connor) It is easy to relate to in means of growing up. The hardships any girl may take are covered in this story; although they are pushed to extremes. The Bitch Posse may test what you think morally, but it will keep you reading.

Heidi is not like any average preteen girl. When Heidi was an infant she and her mentally challenged mother found themselves in a dire situation. With nothing left to live for they found themselves going door to door for help. Finally, an agoraphobic woman named Bernadette lets them in to her life and begins to take care of them as if they were her own. Heidi grows up as a normal child should, but as she enters her preteen years she begins to question her past. How did she get here? Who was her father? Upon her questioning, Heidi discovers a camera and decides to develop the film. The film begins to hint at Heidi’s past and she embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to solve her much concealed past. Sarah Weeks uses strong characterization to give the reader a better idea of how one would deal with a mentally challenged parent. Weeks is often regarded to a being a great user of figurative language. She uses an array of metaphors and similes throughout the novel to describe Heidi’s troubles and discoveries as she journeys through life. The author also portrays the importance of setting in the novel by strongly describing each location Heidi reaches. Each setting Heidi visits plays a large role on how she feels at that point in the novel. This novel is a great coming to age story, great for all audiences.

Bill Wiese experienced a vision on November 23, 1998. In his book he explains how he woke up at 3:00 am and was in hell being tortured by four beasts. He landed in a cell that was about fifteen feet high and ten feet in depth. When he was in the cell he says he felt very week and when he looked around inside his cell to see if he was the only one he discovered he was in there with two enormous beasts. These creatures were around ten to thirteen feet tall. He describes one of the beasts with bumps and scales all over its body, a huge jaw, and huge teeth. It was pacing in the cell like a bull. The second beast was taller and thinner and it had very long arms and razor sharp fins that covered its body. While he is waiting in the cell two more of these beasts come into his cell and then it goes completely dark. He was picked up by one of the creatures and thrown into the wall and he said he felt like every bone in his body was broken. Then the second beast picked him up from behind in a bear hug. The beast’s sharp fins and razor like claws pierced his back. Then the beast shoved his claws into bill’s chest and ripped them outward. He described the smell as if you were to take anything rotten such as a sewer, rotten meat, spoiled eggs, dead rotting animals, and then magnify it by a thousand times you may come close. This book explains what hell is like from Bill Wiese’s experience and how it changed his life.

All three find themselves straight in juvenile detention serving time for their actions until Douglas Healy comes along. Mr. Healy’s goal of setting up a program to let juvenile delinquents live in the real world has finally been approved but is on thin ice. The boys must obey every rule; the slightest mishap will land them straight back where they came from. The setup is flawless and the boys do what their told until an accident leaves Mr. Healy in a coma in a nearby hospital with no memory of himself or the boys. Gecko, Terence and Arjay must work together to maintain the perfect lifestyle in an attempt to stay in the free world, but they feel the pressure of past lifestyle habits pulling them backwards.
The author uses indirect characterization that allows the reader to follow each character by his actions. Over time, each character conquers their own personal flaw and, in the end, manages to overcome their mistrust to form a brotherly bond. The message of trust and friendship is portrayed by the author through the actions of each individual character.
The setting in New York City mimics the confusing and busy lives the boys must now lead in order to earn their freedom. This is a must read book that you wont be able to put down.

How far will you go to save a loved one? John Triton the main character goes through hell to save his wife Kate.Well I read the book The Marine by Rudy Josephs. The plot line begins with ex-marine John Triton coming back home after serving time in Iraq. His wife Kate and he decide to take a vacation. During there vacation three criminals Rome, Morgan, Angela and vescera rob a jewerly store. While running from the cops, they stop at a gas station, where John and Kate have stopped as well. When the cops arrive to get gas, Morgan shoots one and Rome injures the other one. After Verscera knocks John out with a fire exstinguisher, Kate is kidnapped. Morgan shoots at the gas tanks, causing the store to blow up with John inside. John comes out alive, and takes the cop car. He chases after them, with every single member shooting at him. They go through a construction path, and to the edge of a lake. Under heavy fire, John falls out the car and into the lake. With Kate thinking John is dead, Rome and his crew travel through the woods, dragging a bound Kate with them. John comes out of the lake and follows them through the woods to save Kate. This book is brutal. It has a lot of fight scenes and romance. Will John find his wife or will it be too late?
